About Pongal
Pongal is Tamil Nadu's harvest festival, held as the month of Thai begins. On Bhogi, the day before, homes are cleaned and old things are let go. On Thai Pongal, families cook fresh rice with milk and jaggery until it boils over, and offer it to the Sun. Mattu Pongal honours the cattle that help with farming, and Kaanum Pongal is a day for visiting family and going out together.
